Fables, Volumes 1-3 (Bill Willingham)

Fables is a really interesting comic — it’s smart, funny, and has lots of strong female protagonists who aren’t oversexualized or objectified in some of the ways that are typical in more conventional comics. The artwork is exciting and nicely done, the characters are complex and unpredictable, and the storyline is highly addictive. In other words, it’s really good. It’s a very different spin on the familiar fairy tales (Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk, Sleeping Beauty, etc.) and does a nice job bringing the old characters and plots into the twenty-first century. Give it a whirl — you’ll likely be hooked!
