Seconds was a really fun read. I knew it would be, since I loved O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim series, but it was such a scrumptious read that I gobbled it up in one afternoon. It definitely captures that specific kind of anxiety that comes with significant life choices; you know, where big decisions come hand-in-hand with big doubts. Did I make the right choice? Should I have done x instead of y? What if z was actually the right choice? How do I know that I did what’ll be best for me? What if? What if? What if?!? Somehow, O’Malley takes that horrible inner dialogue and turns it into entertainment. And guess what? It’s introspective, interesting, and complex entertainment. (My fave!) If you liked Scott Pilgrim or if you just generally like a good story, give Seconds a try. You won’t regret it (and if you do, well, maybe there’s a magical mushroom out there for you)!
