I recently had the privilege of attending the Association for Asian American Studies (AAAS) annual conference in New Orleans where Karen Yamashita read from her latest novel I, Hotel. To my surprise, she delivered her reading with the help of fellow Coffee House Press author R. Zamora Linmark (author of the new novel Leche). Not only was it the first co-reading I’ve ever experienced, it was a veritable performance. It was beautiful, and it was a hell of a lot of fun! Happily, I recorded it; sadly, I have a very unsteady hand and the picture is shaky and bumpy and unpleasant to watch (especially just past 1:00 when I decided to stand up)…but you should watch it! So without further ado, here it is. Enjoy!
